Sunday the 25th of October saw the opening round of the Revolution Bikes winter cyclo cross series take place at Plas Ffrancon in Bethesda. Although the previous day had seen some heavy rain, conditions on the course were surprisingly dry by the time the riders set out shortly after 11am. After the usual frantic couple of opening laps that usually characterise this type of racing, a lead group emerged consisting of John Holt, Chris Purt, Tom Fryer and Mathew Prichard.
One by one they forged ahead over the challenging terrain, until finally Mathew and Chris broke clear. The second half of the race saw these two vying for the lead, neither one
wanting to relinquish the head of the race. Behind these two, others were locked in there own personal battles.
At the start of the final lap both leaders were still together, until finally out of sight Mathew managed to distance himself slightly from Chris. This slender lead he managed to keep until the finish at which point he crossed the line victorious. Chris followed in close behind with Tom Fryer riding strongly to claim the final podium position.
Three Riders were to contest the junior race, which was held in conjunction with the seniors and vets. All rode strongly around what was a very challenging course in places. The following rounds will surely see these youngsters skills put to the test and will hopefully encourage others to participate.
