Rebecca Owen

I have been swimming since I was 7 years old. To begin with I was entering small 25m galas in Bangor swimming pool such as the Cymru coast league. As I began to realize my strengths were in long distances I entered competitions in Swansea and Sheffield, where in following years I became 1st in Wales and swam for Wales. Deciding to try out different career paths I entered my first Open water swimming race across the Menai Straits in July 2007 – where I got 1st in all genders and ages. Following the Menai competition I entered the British open water championships in August 2007 where I got 3rd in the 1992 age group.

After succeeding in swimming and having also succeeded in Cross country events through out Wales it was suggested that I try out Ttiathlon by Sport and Remedial Massage Practitioner, Zac Laraman. Although I had not tried cycling before I was sent to Gareth & Matt at Revolution and they have set me up with a bike (Merida) and equipment to help me on my way for my first triathlon competition, the Deva Divas at Chester in July.

After a few practices on the bike I have found that I really enjoy it. I find the speed you can get up to a completely new experience and it gives me a new level of adrenaline. Although I am still not fully aware of how to take care of my bike and I’m still adjusting to the numerous amount of gears, I thoroughly recommend it. But thanks to the guys at Revolution I am gradually becoming more independent with my bike.
